The Minnesota Vikings acquire Donovan McNabb from the Redskins

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking Viking News,Front Page,General,Trades by admin on Wednesday 27 July 2011 at 2:44 pm

The Minnesota Vikings have acquired 34-year old QB Donovan McNabb from the Redskins for a 6th round pick in 2012 and a conditional 6th round pick in 2013.  McNabb played in 13 games (all starts) for the Redskins last year and he completed 275 of 472 passes (58.3%) for 3,377 yards with 14 TD passes and 15 INTs (77.1 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 29  times for 152 yards (5.4 ypc) last year.  McNabb has now played in 161 games (155 starts) in his first 12 years in the NFL and he has completed 3,076 of 5,218 passes (58.9%) for 36,250 yards with 230 TD passes and 115 INTs (85.7 QB Rating).  McNabb has also carried the ball 602 times for 3,400 yards (5.6 ypc) with 28 TD runs in his NFL career.  McNabb has made it to 6 Pro Bowls in his first 12 years in the NFL.  The Redskins evidentally didn’t think much about McNabb’s ability in making this deal, but you have to consider his supporting cast in Washington which wasn’t very good.  I think McNabb has a good year or two in him and I think he will be a good mentor to rookie Christian Ponder until he’s ready to play.  This was a good deal for the Vikings as they didn’t give up much for McNabb.

The Minnesota Vikings acquire Randy Moss from the Patriots

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking Viking News,Front Page,General,Trades by admin on Wednesday 6 October 2010 at 5:30 pm

The Vikings have acquired 33-year old WR Randy Moss and a 7th round pick in 2012 for a third round pick in 2011.  Moss played in 4 games for the Patriots this year and he caught 9 passes for 139 yards (15.4 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  Moss has now played in 189 games in his NFL career and he has caught 935 passes for 14,604 yards (15.6 avg) with 151 TD grabs.  Moss is all over the Vikings’ record books as he is #2 all-time in receptions, receiving yards and TDs behind only Cris Carter.  Moss has played in 109 games with the Vikings in his career and he has caught 574 passes for 9,142 yards (15.9 avg) with 90 TD grabs.  He will be ready to go for Monday Night’s game against the Jets.  Brett Favre has been clamoring to play with Randy Moss for quite some time so it should be something that’s fun to watch.

The Minnesota Vikings deal DE Jayme Mitchell to the Browns

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking Viking News,Front Page,General,Trades by admin on Tuesday 5 October 2010 at 7:37 pm

The Vikings have dealt 26-year old DE Jayme Mitchell to the Cleveland Browns for a late round pick in 2012.  Mitchell played in 2 games for the Vikings this year and he had 1 tackle and 1 sack.  In four years with the Vikings, Mitchell played in 29 games in which he had 22 tackles, 5 sacks and 1 forced fumble.  This is a good deal for everyone involved as Mitchell was buried on the depth chart in Minnesota.

The Minnesota Vikings deal PR Darius Reynaud to the Giants

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking Viking News,Front Page,General,Trades by admin on Sunday 5 September 2010 at 11:34 am

The Vikings have dealt 24-year old WR/PR Darius Reynaud to the Giants for a undisclosed draft pick.  Reynaud returned 30 punts for 308 yards (10.3 avg) and 4 kickoffs for 90 yards (22.5 avg) last season for the Vikings.  The punt returns last season were the first of his career but he has now returned 12 kickoffs for 291 yards (24.3 avg).  The Vikings have return men that they like better than Reynaud so it was a good move to get something for him.

The Minnesota Vikings deal Sage Rosenfels to the Giants

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking Viking News,Front Page,General,Trades by admin on Sunday 5 September 2010 at 11:31 am

The Vikings have traded 32-year old QB Sage Rosenfels to the Giants for a conditional draft pick.  Rosenfels did not play in any games for the Vikings last season as he was #3 on the depth chart.  The Vikings showcased him in the pre-season and he played well.  In four pre-season games for the Vikings this year he completed 31 of 51 passes (60.8%) for 402 yards with 4 TD passes and 0 INTs (111.7 QB Rating).  Obviously the Vikings feel good about having Tarvaris Jackson and rookie 6th round pick Joe Webb out of UAB behind Brett Favre on the depth chart.

The Minnesota Vikings acquire WR Greg Camarillo from the Dolphins

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking Viking News,Front Page,General,Trades by admin on Wednesday 25 August 2010 at 4:21 pm

The Vikings have acquired 28-year old WR Greg Camarillo from the Dolphins for 29-year old CB Benny Sapp.  Camarillo played in 16 games (all starts) for the Dolphins last season and he caught 50 passes for 552 yards (11.0 avg).  He has now played in 46 games (27 starts) in his four years in the NFL and he has caught 113 passes for 1,325 yards (11.7 avg) with 4 TD grabs.  Camarillo will likely be the #3 or #4 WR for the Vikings this year.  Benny Sapp played in 16 games for the Vikings last season and he had 43 tackles, 6 passes defensed and 2 forced fumbles.  Sapp played in 30 games in his two years with the Vikings and he had 65 tackles, 8 passes defensed, 2 forced fumbles and he had 2 interceptions.

The Minnesota Vikings acquire Sage Rosenfels from the Texans

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking Viking News,Front Page,General,Trades by admin on Friday 27 February 2009 at 10:34 pm

The Vikings have acquired 30-year old QB Sage Rosenfels from the Texans for a 4th round pick in 2009.  Rosenfels played in 6 games for the Texans last season and he completed 116 of 174 passes (66.7%) for 1,431 yards with 6 TD passes and 10 interceptions (79.5 QB Rating).  He also carried the football 11 times for 37 yards (3.4 ypc) last season.  Rosenfels has now played in 32 games in his NFL career in which he has completed 351 of 562 passes (62.5%) for 4,156 yards with 30 TD passes and 29 interceptions (81.2 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 45 times for 98 yards (2.2 ypc) with 1 TD run in his career to date.  I don’t like this move for the Vikings as Rosenfels is no better than Gus Frerotte.  They should have just signed someone like Jeff Garcia who would have been a nice fit for their offense.

The Minnesota Vikings trade DE Erasmus James to the Redskins

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking Viking News,Front Page,General,Trades by admin on Tuesday 27 May 2008 at 7:20 pm

The Vikings have traded DE Erasmus James to the Washington Redskins for a conditional 7th round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.  James had been limping around in the off season and the Vikings just couldn’t depend on him staying healthy.  So they figured it was best to just cut bait with James and at least they got something for him instead of just releasing him.  James has been a huge disappointment for the Vikings in his career.  James played in 6 games last season for the Vikings and he made a whopping 7 tackles.  James finishes his career with the Vikings having played in 23 games in which he made 37 tackles, had 5 sacks and defended two passes.

The Minnesota Vikings acquire DE Jared Allen from the Chiefs

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking Viking News,Front Page,General,Trades by admin on Tuesday 22 April 2008 at 10:31 pm

The Vikings have acquired 26-year old, Pro Bowl DE Jared Allen from the Chiefs.  The Vikings will part with at least the #17 (1st round) pick in the NFL Draft and the #72 selection (3rd round) for Allen.  Allen fits a huge need for the Vikings as they haven’t had much of a pass rush the last few seasons.  Allen played in 14 games for the Chiefs last season and he made 64 tackles, had 15.5 sacks (#1 in NFL) and he defensed 10 passes.  Allen has now played in 61 games (55 starts) in his NFL career and he has made 227 tackles, has 43 sacks, defensed 25 passes and intercepted a pass.  Adding Allen will make the Vikings’ defense even more dominating than usual.  Now all they need is a NFL QB.
