The Minnesota Vikings will likely have two new QBs in 2011
The Minnesota Vikings need a lot of help at QB for 2011. 41-year old Brett Favre has decided to retire after getting beat up physically last season and having the worst year of his NFL career. Favre played in 13 games for the Vikings last season in which he completed 217 of 358 passes (60.6%) for 2,509 yards with 11 TD passes and 19 INTs (69.9 QB Rating). Favre also carried the ball 17 times for 8 yards (0.5 ypc) last season. He finishes his NFL career having played in 302 games in which he completed 6,300 of 10,169 passes (62.0%) for 71,838 yards with 508 TD passes and 336 INTs (86.0 QB Rating). He also has carried the ball 602 times for 1,844 yards (3.1 ypc) with 14 TD runs in his career.
27-year old Tarvaris Jackson never has had the faith of the coaching staff in Minnesota. Jackson played in 3 games for the Vikings last season and he completed 34 of 58 passes (58.6%) for 341 yards with 3 TD passes and 4 INTs (63.9 QB Rating). He also carried the ball 7 times for 63 yards (9.0 ypc) last season. Jackson has now played in 36 games in his NFL career and he has completed 354 of 603 passes (58.7%) for 3,984 yards with 24 TD passes and 22 INTs (76.6 QB Rating). He also carried the ball 119 times for 535 yards (4.5 ypc) with 4 TD runs so far in his career. Jackson will be looking for a new team this summer.
24-year old rookie Joe Webb was forced into action late in the season due to injuries to both Brett Favre & Tarvaris Jackson. Webb played in 5 games for the Vikings last season and he completed 54 of 89 passes (60.7%) for 477 yards with 0 TD passes and 3 INTs (60.9 QB Rating). He also carried the ball 18 times for 120 yards (6.7 ypc) with 2 TD runs last season. Webb will likely be no better than the Vikings’ #3 QB when next season begins.
VERDICT: The Vikings need to bring in two QBs to replace Brett Favre and Tarvaris Jackson, with one of them being the starting QB.
