Brett Favre “may not” play whole season for Minnesota Vikings

Brett Favre is about to tie former Vikings defensive lineman Jim Marshal’s NFL iron man streak with his 270th consequtive start at Cleveland on Sunday.  Favre has made it clear that he will not let that streak hurt the team and if he is not physically up to the task that he would sit out.  He also stated that he “may not” play in every game this year as the wear and tear of an NFL season is hard enough on 20 somethings, let alone an aging 39-year-old.

Favre made similar remarks when he came back with the New York Jets last season yet he still played in all the games.  He had some very poor performances later in the season, most likely due to his injured shoulder, and did not take himself out like he said he would.  Hopefully for Vikings’ fans if Favre is in a similar circumstance this year, he will keep his word and take himself out.  We all know how strong Favre’s word is though, as he has retired and un-retired what seems like 20 times now.

The Vikings looked good in this game again.  Brett Favre was very solid in this game as he completed 13 of 18 passes for 142 yards with 1 TD pass.  The Vikings didn’t allow either of the other two QBs to throw the ball much.  Tarvaris Jackson completed both of his pass attempts for 22 yards.  Sage Rosenfels completed 2 of 3 passes for 26 yards last night.  Adrian Peterson was awesome as usual in this football game.  He took the ball from Brett Favre on the first play of the game and ran it 75 yards for a TD.  Peterson carried the ball 11 times for 117 yards (10.6 ypc) with a TD run in this game.  He also caught 1 pass for 8 yards.  Fellow RB Chester Taylor was also busy as he carried the ball 7 times for 30 yards (4.3 ypc).  He also caught 3 passes for 41 yards (13.7 avg) with a TD.  The Vikings finished up with 352 total yards on offense (180 rushing, 172 passing) in this game.

DE Jared Allen (7 tackles, sack) and LB Ben Leber (5 tackles, interception) led the way for the Vikings on defense in this game.  The Texans only finished up with 268 total yards on offense (61 rushing, 207 passing) in this game.
