Minnesota Vikings 34, Chicago Bears 31
The Minnesota Vikings had an excellent gameplan against the Bears today and that was to run the ball all over them…..and that they did. All Tavaris Jackson had to do was manage the game and he did a decent job completing 9 of 23 passes for 136 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs. Rookie running back Adrian Peterson was awesome today as he carried the ball 20 times for 224 yards (11.2 ypc) with 3 TD runs and he also caught 1 pass for 9 yards. Peterson was good on kickoff returns (4 for 128 yards, 32.0 avg) as the Bears defense and special teams units will have nightmares all week about him. Chester Taylor also got some good work in as he carried the ball 22 times for 83 yards (3.8 ypc). Troy Williamson was the leading receiver for the Vikings with 2 catches for 69 yards (34.5 avg) with 1 TD grab. The Vikings finished up this game with 311 yards rushing on 43 carries (7.2 ypc) and they completed 9 of 23 passes for 133 yards.
Linebacker E.J. Henderson led the way on defense for the Vikings with 10 tackles. Safety Dwight Smith added 5 tackles and an interception and linebacker Ben Leber pitched in with 3 tackles, 1 interception and 1 sack. The Vikings held the Bears to only 83 yards rushing on 24 carries (3.5 ypc) but they completed 26 of 45 passes for 375 yards. Devin Hester also scored on a 89-yard punt return for a TD.
Ryan Longwell kicked the game winning field goal as time expired from 55 yards out.
