2. (44) Sidney Rice, WR

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,The Draft Report by squarebettor on Sunday 20 May 2007 at 2:29 pm

The Vikings needed a WR bad in this draft and they got one in the 2nd round.  Sidney Rice has always been a productive player at South Carolina but their are question marks about him.  Not too many Steve Spurrier coached WRs have done well in the Pros.   Rice came out a year early despite many in South Carolina wanting him to return for his senior season.  He has maturity problems and he’s not the toughest guy around.  When you combine those factors with his lack of speed (4.6 40), you have to wonder if Rice will be a good receiver in the NFL.  In 24 games at South Carolina (all starts), Rice caught 142 passes for 2,233 yards (15.7 avg) with 23 TD passes.

He is great! He has the most talenet in this draft besides Johnson. And he should make a imediate imoact on the vikings offence! THIS WAS A STEEL

We’ll see. He was projected to be drafted in the 1st round and he likely fell because of his lack of top end speed. I also think the Vikings should quit drafting WRs from South Carolina because look at how bad Troy Williamson has been for them.

I am an SC fan and I was shocked when the vikings took Williamson. He was fast and that is all. Rice on the other hand is an absolute steal in the second round. There is no way he isn’t a top five pick next year if he had stayed at SC. This guy is super-human. He catches the ball over everyone and I don’t understand how this bonehead says he’s not tough. He played with broken fingers and never had any serious injury other than a sprained knee during his red-shirt year. DO NOT look at the 40 time and think he is slow. he is as fast as he wants to be when the ball is in the air. I would bet my paycheck that 95% of all vikings will fall in love with this guy (the other 5% you can’t please). In fact, I heard he is already the #1 receiver w/ Wade at #2 and Williamson @ #3. It really did break my heart when he left early from SC, he is a better receiver than Calvin Johnson when it comes to fighting in a pack or just plain getting open. Clemson shut down Johnson, zero catches! rice 8+ catches for over 100 yards with double coverage every play. Think about that…SEC players double covering him every down and he still gets over 100 yards a game on average. You will see, and I am now officially a Viking fan!

Ok Zog we will see about Rice. He will be catching passes from the worst quarterbacks the NFL can offer so he will have to fight for every catch he can get.
