The Vikings add to their collection of lousy QBs by signing Drew Henson

Drew Henson didn’t play a down in the NFL last season and he’s been a complete bust in both the NFL and minor league baseball!  Henson has played in 7 games (1 start) in his NFL career and he’s completed 10 of 18 passes (55.6%) for 78 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception (61.8 QB Rating).  Henson is no better than the riff-raff that the Vikings currently have on their roster at QB.  If Henson makes the team that will speak volumes about how bad the Vikings will be in 2007.

The Vikings sign WR Bobby Wade

Bobby Wade is not the answer to what the Vikings need as he’s no better than a #3 or #4 WR.  Wade played in all 16 games (2 starts) for the Tennessee Titans last season and he caught 33 passes for 461 yards (14.0 avg) with 2 TD catches.  He has caught 33 or more passes twice in his 4 year NFL career to date.

The Vikings sign LB Vinny Ciurciu

This is another questionable signing by the Minnesota Vikings unless they just got him to play special teams.  Ciurciu played in all 16 games last season for the Carolina Panthers and he only made 18 tackles.  In his career, Ciurciu has played in 57 games and made 77 tackles.  Who’s running this team?  They better put down the crack pipe and start bringing in talented football players instead of career back ups.

The Vikings sign TE Visanthe Shiancoe to a 5-year contract

Are the Minnesota Vikings out of there minds?  5 years and $18.2 million bucks for Visanthe Shiancoe?  Shiancoe played in all 16 games last season for the New York Giants (4 starts) and he caught 12 passes for 81 yards (6.8 avg).  Over his career, Shiancoe has played in 64 games (23 starts) and he has caught 35 passes for 253 yards (7.2 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  Maybe Coach Childress saw something he really liked when he was coaching in Philly against Shiancoe, because this move makes little sense.

The Vikings release 3 veteran players

The Vikings have released TE Jermaine Wiggins, OT/G Mike Rosenthal and CB Fred Smoot.  Rosenthal played in 15 games last season and he started 3 of them.  Jermaine Wiggins played in 16 games (3 starts) and he caught 46 passes for 386 yards (8.4 avg) with one TD grab.  CB Fred Smoot played in 14 games last season for the Vikings and he made 61 tackles, had one interception (returned 47 yards for a TD), defensed 4 passes, forced 2 fumbles and recovered one fumble.  These were strictly money moves for the Vikings as all three of these guys were contributors last season for them.
