Brad Johnson leads shaky QB crew

The Vikings are putting all their eggs in the basket of a quarterback that will turn 38 the second week of the season.  Brad Johnson played well last season after Duante Culpepper hurt his knee as he played in 15 games (9 starts) and completed 62.6% of his passes for 1,885 yards with 12 TD and 4 interceptions for a QB rating of 88.9.  Johnson is a late bloomer that was a back-up for a long time before being a starting QB, but no doubt he is a winner as evidenced by the Super Bowl ring he wears from being the starting QB for the Tampa Bay Bucs.  For his career, he has played in 130 games (108 starts) and completed 61.9% of his passes for 25,798 yards with 155 TD passes and 102 INT for a career rating of 84.4.  The Vikings have to keep the old guy healthy to have a chance at the playoffs.

Mike McMahon, signed as a free-agent in the off-season, is a terrible quarterback.  In 29 games (14 starts) he has only completed 44.5% of his passes for 2,867 yards with 15 TD and 21 INT for a QB rating of 55.1.  The only thing McMahon is good at doing is tucking the ball and running with it.  McMahon has carried the ball 82 times for 409 yards (5.0 ypc) and seven touchdowns.  If McMahon plays, the Vikings’ offense will slow to a crawl.

J.T. O’Sullivan has only played in one game in four years and did nothing in it….he has no stats.  Tavaris Jackson, who was drafted in the second round out of Alabama State, is a project who will need some time to make the leap to the NFL from Alabama State.
